A Journey into Turkey’s Wooden Boatbuilding Industry

“A Journey into Turkey’s Wooden Boatbuilding Industry” was the Kayık Association’s first venture and will be followed by training programmes featuring wooden boat production, organizing technical workshops, the development of production standards, restoration of old wooden boats, participation in local and international wooden boat races, publicity, promotion and the creation of publications about Turkish naval history.

“A Journey into Turkey’s Wooden Boatbuilding Industry” started off in the shipyards of Tuzla, followed by tours of the yards and boats in Göcek, Bozburun and Bodrum. After visiting the shipyards, tours of the Koç Museum, Harun’s Paradise, and Bodrum’s Museum of Underwater Archeology provided yet more fascinating insights into the historical development of the art and science of Turkish wooden boatbuilding.
